That's right! SB 81 is a horrid law that has been put into effect (July 1st, 2009) to target the undocumented community in Utah. If you are an undocumented student in the state, and fear that this law will not allow you to continue with your education, DON'T WORRY, SB 81 does NOT affect your educational rights!
HB 144 is a law that allows undocumented students to pay instate tuition at any university or college in the state of Utah. For more information about the requirements for HB144 please click here. SB 81 is NOT taking HB 144 away from ANYONE. Thank goodness right !? :)
One more thing about HB 144! When applying to the university or college you WILL have to sign an affidavit (sort of a contract) in which you agree that as soon as you have the opportunity to obtain proper documentation, you will. Again, DON'T WORRY, the affidavit will NOT be shared with ANYONE.
We believe that undocumented students deserve the same rights as citizens do! and know that together we can fight for what we believe in!
