Undocumented Students won't be able to receive ANY scholarships administered by the University of Utah...

Community, we have terrible news...

We've recently found out that the University of Utah will NOT be giving any sort of FINANCIAL AID, including private scholarships, to any undocumented student.

The general council of the University of Utah came up with a policy that no employee can handle money that will be used to aid/fund undocumented students...

A staff member at the University of Utah stated:

"...What this now means is that students can still continue to receive private scholarships that are NOT administered by the University of Utah. Currently there is only the Somos Leadership Foundation and the Alliance for Unity. This year recipients of the Larry H. Miller and maybe others alike were grandfathered in..."

Key Points:

Students under HB 144 will continue to receive instate tuition!
Students under HB 144 who have received any scholarships for the next school year ('09-'10), will be grandfathered in... meaning they WILL be able to use their scholarships until the money runs out.
Students under HB 144 may still be awarded scholarships as long as they are NOT administered through the University of Utah.
GREAT COMMUNITY MEMBERS are working hard trying to fix this problem.

There is HOPE gals and guys, there is hope...

Estudiantes Indocumentados no van a poder recibir NINGUNA beca administrada por la Universidad de Utah…

Comunidad, les tenemos terribles noticias…

Nos acabamos de enterar que la Universidad de Utah NO va a dar ningún tipo de beca, incluyendo becas privadas, a ningún estudiante indocumentado.

Los abogados de la Universidad de Utah crearon una nueva póliza que no permite a ningún empleado manejar dinero que va a ser usad para ayudar a estudiantes indocumentados...

Un empleado/a de la Universidad de Utah dijo:

“… Lo que ahora esto significa es que estudiantes indocumentados todavía pueden continuar recibiendo becas privadas que NO sean administradas por la Universidad de Utah. Actualmente solo esta la beca de “Somos Leadership Foundation” y la “Aliance for Unity.” Este año los que recibieron la beca de Larry H. Miller y derepente las otras parecidas están “grandfathered in…” (lo cual significa que si van a poder usarlas este año)”

  Puntos Importantes:

¡Estudiantes bajo HB 144 van a seguir recibiendo matricula estatal!
Estudiantes bajo HB 144 quienes recibieron cualquier beca para el próximo año escolar (’09-’10), van a ser “grandfathered in…” lo cual significa que SI van a poder usar el dinero que recibieron en becas hasta que se acabe.
Estudiantes bajo HB 144 van a poder seguir recibiendo becas con tal de que NO se administradas por la Universidad de Utah.
GRANDES MIEMBROS DE LA COMUNIDAD están trabajando para tratar de arreglar este problema.

SB 81 does NOT affect HB 144!

That's right! SB 81 is a horrid law that has been put into effect (July 1st, 2009) to target the undocumented community in Utah. If you are an undocumented student in the state, and fear that this law will not allow you to continue with your education, DON'T WORRY, SB 81 does NOT affect your educational rights!

HB 144 is a law that allows undocumented students to pay instate tuition at any university or college in the state of Utah. For more information about the requirements for HB144 please click here. SB 81 is NOT taking HB 144 away from ANYONE. Thank goodness right !? :)

One more thing about HB 144! When applying to the university or college you WILL have to sign an affidavit (sort of a contract) in which you agree that as soon as you have the opportunity to obtain proper documentation, you will. Again, DON'T WORRY, the affidavit will NOT be shared with ANYONE.

We believe that undocumented students deserve the same rights as citizens do! and know that together we can fight for what we believe in!

¡SB 81 NO afecta a HB 144!

¡Así es! SB 81 es una temerosa ley que se ha puesto en marcha (1 de julio de 2009) con un solo objetivo, atacar a la comunidad indocumentada de Utah. Si tu eres un estudiante indocumentado en el estado, y tienes miedo de que esta ley afecte tu futuro educacional y no te deje continuar con tu educación, NO TE PREOCUPES, ¡SB 81 NO afecta tus derechos educacionales!

HB 144 es una ley que permite a estudiantes indocumentados pagar “instate tuition” ( matricula estatal) en cualquier colegio, o universidad en el estado de Utah. Para más información sobre los requisitos de HB 144 por favor haga click aquí. SB 81 NO le está quitando HB 144 a NADIE. ¡Esto si que es bueno! :)

¡Una cosita más sobre HB 144! Cuando apliques al colegio o universidad VAS a tener que firmar un “affidávit” (una declaración, como un contrato) en el cual tu te pones de acuerdo que en cuanto tengas la oportunidad de obtener la residencia, o ciudadanía, lo vas a hacer. Una vez mas, NO TE PREOCUPES, el affidávit NO va a ser compartido con NADIE.

¡Nosotros creemos que los estudiantes indocumentados merecen los mismos derechos que los ciudadanos tienen! ¡Y sabemos que juntos podemos luchar por lo que creemos!
