We've recently found out that the University of Utah will NOT be giving any sort of FINANCIAL AID, including private scholarships, to any undocumented student.
The general council of the University of Utah came up with a policy that no employee can handle money that will be used to aid/fund undocumented students...
A staff member at the University of Utah stated:
"...What this now means is that students can still continue to receive private scholarships that are NOT administered by the University of Utah. Currently there is only the Somos Leadership Foundation and the Alliance for Unity. This year recipients of the Larry H. Miller and maybe others alike were grandfathered in..."
Key Points:
- Students under HB 144 will continue to receive instate tuition!
- Students under HB 144 who have received any scholarships for the next school year ('09-'10), will be grandfathered in... meaning they WILL be able to use their scholarships until the money runs out.
- Students under HB 144 may still be awarded scholarships as long as they are NOT administered through the University of Utah.
- GREAT COMMUNITY MEMBERS are working hard trying to fix this problem.
There is HOPE gals and guys, there is hope...
